The Moors never came up in the mountains of Northwest Spain. That was a sanctuary for visigothic nobles and their celt-iberian wives especially in the Picos De Europa in east Asturias founded by Pelayo. The Moors left that area alone because the terrain is treacherous and weather colder and the Moors said they did not have the ability to fly to get up there. That's why there is a famous saying, "Asturias is Spain. The rest is just reconquered territory." That's why we have holy titles as surnames starting with Santo, Santi or Santa because our ancestors were Christian Knights who were probably Visigothic and not only got a title as a surname but a little piece of land with the same title that sounds more Latinized. We had more common names associated with Spanish like names ending in "ez" but we underwent a name change during the Reconquest because of someone in our line being titled or venerated with a holy name and throwing the Moors out of Iberia, You really don't believe European Christian Visigothic Knights want anything to do with non-European Muslims? They have nothing in common and the Moors were evil. That's why the Christian nobles were up in the isolated, cold mountains were life is sooo hard and the landscape so rugged and very hard to grow food, not the pleasant sunny Mediterrenean, to get away from them and have nothing to do with them, be left alone and throw the Muslims out of the Iberia.

This building was constructed by the Tartarians hundreds of years ago maybe even longer. It was found and repurposed in 1911-1912. People in 1912 could never construct something of this glory in one year let alone in 50 years. It was recently atacked by arson in an attemp to cover up the true history of the USA. They burn these marvelous buildings all the time it is sickening.

Sark is notable in that it was the last fiefdom in Europe, with the termination of feudal status in 2008 via referendum. Sark, even as a component of the Bailiwick of Guernsey, is considered it's own state within framework of the bailiwick. From 1565 to 2008, a feudal lord, titled the Seigneur of Sark (with the King/Queen being the overlord), was granted the fief with the condition he/she kept the island free of pirates. Some quirky and seemingly anachronistic goings on with all that into the 21st century.

For the people who don't know what Kurentovanje is! Kurentovanje is Slovenia's most popular and ethnologically significant carnival. Its main figure, known as Kurent or Korent, has been popularly reinterpreted as an extravagant god of unrestrained pleasure and hedonism in early Slavic customs. In today's festival, groups of kurents or kurenti wear traditional sheepskin garments while holding wooden clubs with hedgehog skins attached called ježevke, the noise of which is believed to "chase away winter". In this way, the presence of kurenti announces the end of winter and beginning of spring.Being a kurent was at first a privilege offered only to unmarried men, but today, married men, children and women are also invited to wear the outfit. I didn't know that either until I read it on Wiki. :)

Yes, Poles are proud of the constitution that was adopted on May 3, 1791. It went down in history as the Constitution of May 3rd and is considered the first democratic constitution in Europe and the second democratic constitution after the American Constitution. But if one looks closely one can see that that's not really true. Because Poland already had a democratic constitution in 1505! Because the Polish Rzeczpospolita (Republic) was established with the Polish Constitution "Nihil novi" in 1505! "Nihil novi" is the abridged version of "Nihil novi nisi commune consensu" ("Nothing new without the common consent") which is the original Latin title of the constitution adopted by the Polish Sejm (parliament), meeting in the Polish royal castle at Radome. "Nothing new" was in the name because the Polish nobility actually had extensive rights before this constitution and the constitution was only seen as a supplement and confirmation of these rights. Another motto of the newly created republic was "Nothing about us without us" (in Polish, "Nic o nas bez nas"). All this illustrates the republican thinking that was widespread in Poland long before the establishment of this constitution. Poland subsequently became a byword for democratic norms throughout Europe. However with this Polish Constitution of 1505 "Nihil novi" the Polish empire became a de facto a monarchic republic and the Polish empire actually called itself Rzeczpospolita which translated means republic because that was the real foundation of the Polish Rzeczpospolita. So this polish Constitution Nihil Novi of 1505 was the first democratic constitution ever becuase this Constitution stipulated that the Polish parliament (Sejm) must approve all new laws and that the king is only the head of the state with limited power elected for life (elective kingship). His actual area of responsibility was foreign policy because he only had very limited domestic political rights. Any taxes could be authorized only by the parliament. The king could issue independent edicts only in the affairs of royal cities, education, religious, Jews, fiefdoms, peasants in royal lands, and mining affairs. It is worth to underline that according to the Constitution, if the monarch were to transgress against the law or the privileges of the szlachta (nobility), the Constitution authorized the szlachta to refuse the king’s orders and act against him by raising a legal rebellion. Each king had to swear that “if anything has been done by Us against laws, liberties, privileges or customs, we declare all the inhabitants of the Kingdom are freed from obedience to Us”. With this revolutionary constitution Nihil Novi Poland had become an aristocratic republic and nobles' democracy. Laws were passed in the Polish Parliament (Sejm) by the nobility. This system provided equal rights for all nobles. The high nobility, who mostly had huge estates, were legally on a par with the simple, petty nobility according this constitution. !" The nobility made up up to 10-15% of the population in Poland unlike rest of Europe with 1% nobility in the countries! So up to 15% of the population had democratic rights, which is why, according to current standards, Poland can be defined as a democracy at the time. In addition, the constitution contained articles of the Warsaw Confederation's provisions, which guaranteed unprecedented religious freedom. In a few Swiss cantons, some Italian republics and England there were also democratic tendencies. But they could not be compared with the achievements of this democratic Polish constitution. So in contrast to other countries in Europe, with the exception of England, some italian republics and few Swiss cantons, Poland did not develop to an absolute despotic monarchy, but to the Rzeczpospolita (republic), a mixed system of elective monarchy and democratic republic. The Lithuanian nobility and Ruthenian nobility, who were already largely Polonized, had the same rights as the Polish nobility by this constitution. In terms of civilization, this was a completely superior government system compared to most European countries ruled by despots for centuries. So Poles can be just as proud of the constitution of 1505 as they were of the constitution of 1791!
